Water
Petaluma River is rowable year-round. Members
usually frequent the first 6 miles of the river
south of Petaluma. The "River" is a tidal slough
that is subject to tides which are about 45 minutes
behind those at the Golden Gate. Boat traffic is not
regulated outside of Petaluma city limits, but tends
not to be a major problem except during mid-day on
holidays and summer weekends. Most of the river area
is bounded by wetlands, a bird sanctuary, and 3
small marinas. There are 4 major straight-aways on
the river on which we can row 500-2500m pieces.
