Joining the High School Competitive Team
Tryout week is your chance to try rowing and see if it's the right sport for you. During tryouts you will learn the fundamentals from terminology, the proper rowing stroke, equipment usage, and fitness training. Row and train alongside the established competitive team and experience the sport as the team kicks off the season. NBRC Juniors is a no cut team, thus all athletes who attend tryout week and would like to continue are welcome
The Competitive Team races in the fastest region in the country against some of the most accomplished clubs. The only prerequisite is a good work ethic and a desire to be challenged!
Why Should I Try Rowing?
Fitness: Pound for pound, rowers are the fittest athletes on the planet. Rowing provides a full body workout requiring the strength of a weight lifter, the cardio of a runner, and the finesse of a gymnast. It's a great way to build a healthy heart and lungs, strong muscles, and fine-tuned proprioception.
College Recruitment: Rowing is one of the best ways to get recruited to college, especially for women! In the past, NBRC has sent rowers to Cal, Stanford, Washington, Boston, UC San Diego, Sacramento State, and many others. Most of our coaches have gone through this process and are highly knowledgable in what coaches are looking for in prospective student-athletes.
Lasting Friendships: The bonds you create on a rowing team will last a lifetime. If you're new to high school, the team provides a built-in support structure of like-minded individuals with whom you'll travel, practice with, and compete alongside.
Travel: NBRC competes as far away as Oregon, Boston, and Florida. On these trips, you'll compete on some of the most famous rowing courses in the country, such as the Charles River, or some of the most beautiful, in the mountains of Oregon.
