Coach John got his start in rowing just over 15 years ago at a learn-to-row camp the summer before his freshman year at Lake Braddock High School. There he developed his passion while competing at the varsity level taking several State and National championship titles. He also coxed for masters programs during his summers, traveling extensively and competing for crews such as Chinook Racing and Vesper Boat Club. He began coaching in 2021, achieving great success with his 1st novice class winning a State championship in the Freshman 4+ category. They would repeat the success the year after in the Junior 4+ category. After his departure from Lake Braddock the same crew would win a Stotesbury medal. Coach John continued to be a top level coxswain after high school, joining the ranks of Capital Rowing Club’s Competitive Squad while also coaching for Capital. He joins NBRC after coaching in the Bahamas for 2 years. In the Bahamas he helped grow rowing across the Caribbean nation and developed strong community programs as part of Nassau Rowing Club. He is looking forward to growing the local rowing community at NBRC and helping its rowers compete.
