Coach Ken Rowles

Ken began rowing in high school when he co-founded his school team, which was one of the first junior programs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Next, he rowed for the University of Pennsylvania lightweight team where his freshman boat finished second in the country.

Then he rowed in the first varsity boat for three years and during that time finished first or second at every major college regatta. His senior year he was elected captain, named to the All-Ivy Academic Team in Rowing, and invited to the US Pre-Elite Camp where he rowed at the US Olympic Festival. With his body breaking down and his bank account empty, he retired from competitive rowing and spent twenty years as a founding partner of a business.  After retiring from business, he tried teaching elementary school but realized teaching on the water is way more fun.

He is grateful for the opportunity to work with the athletes at North Bay Rowing Club.
