Coach Pamela Hughes began her rowing career as an NCAA Division I student-athlete at Rutgers University. Since 2013, she has coached scullers across all age classifications. In 2018, she joined North Bay Rowing Club, where she broadened her coaching expertise across both sculling and sweep disciplines as a junior coach. In 2021, Hughes became Juniors Head Coach, taking on the challenge of rebuilding the club’s youth competitive program.

In January 2023, Hughes earned her USRowing Level 3 High Performance Coach Certification. Her professional mission is to collaborate with rowers to help each athlete achieve their highest possible level of skill and performance.

Hughes has demonstrated sustained success developing young athletes and preparing crews to compete at the highest levels of junior rowing. She has coached North Bay rowers through qualification and competition at the 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships. Her accomplishments include guiding the Women’s and Men’s U16 Coxed Quads to Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, at the 2025 USRowing Youth National Championships.

Outside of coaching, Hughes remains an active competitor and water-sports enthusiast. As a masters sculler, she has competed at regattas including the Head of the Charles and Head of the Schuylkill. In 2024, she raced her sailboat in the Pacific Cup from San Francisco to Oahu and has also earned Stress & Rescue SCUBA certification.

Hughes lives aboard a boat in California, rows a Fluidesign, and enjoys life on the water with her husband, Bill, and their Redbone Hound.
